Frank J. Petkewicz, loving husband, dad and grandpa passed into heaven at the age of 75. He died on Monday, April 21, 2014 at the Carroll County Good Samaritan Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Mt. Carroll. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, April 28, 2014, at Ss. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will take place at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 29, 2014 in Woodlawn Cemetery, Forrest Park, Illinois. A visitation will be held 2:00 - 5:00 p.m. Sunday, April 27, 2014 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Carroll County Good Samaritan or Ss. John and Catherine Catholic Church in Frank’s memory.
Frank was born on November 28, 1938, the son of Frank and Frances (Krzyzaniak) Petkewicz in Chicago, Illinois. He attended Tilden Tech, Chicago and graduated with the Class of 1957. He married Marilyn Kozerski on December 26, 1959 in St. Camillus Catholic Church, Chicago.
In his younger years, Frank worked for a drafting company and lived in New Mexico and Minnesota, before returning to Chicago. He was a Mechanical Electrical Design Engineer for GTE, before retiring after twenty years. He was instrumental in developing telephones for GTE, especially in the development of the pay phone. Frank and his wife, Marilyn moved to Chadwick in 2005.
Frank was a member of Ss. John and Catherine Catholic Church, Mt. Carroll. He was involved with Boy Scouts and served as a past Den Leader and Scout Master. He and his wife spent two weeks of their summer vacation attending Scout Camp for thirteen years in a row. Frank was also a member of the Chadwick Lions Club and was a past President of the Holy Name Society. Frank loved watching birds, especially eagles. Most of all, Frank loved spending time with his family and friends.
Frank will be dearly missed by his wife, Marilyn; one son, Jeff (Karen) Petkewicz of Woodridge, Illinois; one daughter, Margaret (James) Morris of Newark, Delaware; four grandchildren, Colleen and Ryan Morris and Rachel and Zachary Petkewicz and two brothers, Joseph (Elaine) Petkewicz of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Edward (Lynn) Petkewicz of Bolingbrook, Illinois. Frank was preceded in death by his parents and one brother and sister in-law, Harry (May) Petkewicz.
