Frank P. Gillen, age 93, of Savanna, Illinois died Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Rockford Memorial Hospital in Rockford, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 16, 2012 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established in Frank’s memory.
Frank was born on October 13, 1918, the son of Frank and Regina (Scotor) Gillen in Cassville, Wisconsin. Frank was united in marriage to Angelita Hernandez on November 16, 1943 in St. Louis, Missouri. Angelita died on February 21, 1972 in Freeport, Illinois.
Frank was a laborer for Burlington Northern Railroad for many years. He loved the outdoors and was a member of Ducks Unlimited. Frank enjoyed fishing, watching sports and spending time with his family and friends.
Frank will be dearly missed by nine children, Frank (Betty) Gillen of Savanna, Rose (Jerry) Reiff of Thomson, Dr. Arthur A. Gillen of Rock Island, Illinois, Toni Shearer of Wasilla, Alaska, Victoria Darrah of Savanna, Joan (Bruce) Ward of Kewanee, Illinois, Edward Gillen of Savanna, John Gillen of Savanna and Rita (Greg) Mitchell of Clinton, Iowa and one hundred seventeen, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife, Angelita; two sons, Michael Gillen and Joe Gillen; a grandson, Joseph Gillen and four sisters, Ann Coyle, Leona Gillen, Clara Lopez and Josephine Arce.
