Frank H. Gillen, age 50, of Freeport, Illinois, formerly of Savanna, Illinois died on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Freeport Memorial Hospital in Freeport. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 6, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m., Thursday, December 6, 2018, prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will take place in the Rock Island National Cemetery, Rock Island, Illinois. A memorial fund has been established in Frank’s memory.
Frank was born on August 12, 1968, the son of Frank P. and Betty A. (Laing) Gillen in Savanna. He attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1986. After graduation, Frank proudly served his country in the United States Army. Frank married Catherine Gerloff on March 16, 1991 in Freeport. After he was honorably discharged from the United States Army, Frank began working at Kelly Springfield Tire Company. He worked at Kelly Tire for over twenty-one years before leaving because of his health in 2015. Frank loved his music and would often DJ at local bars and restaurants. He enjoyed hanging out and playing his PS4 with friends online. Frank also loved the outdoors, especially camping and taking his grandkids to play at the park. Most of all, Frank cherished spending time with his close friends and family.
Frank will be dearly missed by his wife, Cathy of Freeport; three daughters, Sammy Gillen of Freeport, Marie (Marvin Wilson) Gillen of Freeport and Raquel (Alex Ramirez) Gillen of Freeport; fifteen grandchildren; his father, Frank Gillen of Savanna; three brothers, Troy (Georgie) Alderman of Camanche, Iowa, Rick Gillen of Clinton, Iowa and Daniel Gillen of Clinton; one sister, Monica (Paul) Smiley of Savanna; and many nieces and nephews. Frank was preceded in death by his mother, Betty; and one brother, Joseph Gillen.
