Frank “Marty” Gilmore, age 67, of Savanna, Illinois, passed away on December 10, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, Iowa City, Iowa. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial gathering will be held from 1:00 to 2:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home.
Marty was born February 3, 1951, the son of Orville and Fayetta (DeSpain) Gilmore in Savanna. He attended Center Hill Elementary and Mt. Carroll High School, graduating with the Class of 1970. On March 7, 1975, Marty married Mary Randall. Together they celebrated 43 years of marriage and raised one son, Jeremy.
Marty worked for the Milwaukee Railroad for 14 years on the bridge and building crew, and for Swiss Colony in Savanna for five years. He was a member of the Savanna Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing cribbage and spending time outdoors in the country. Marty loved music, singing, and spending Sunday mornings in Sabula.
Marty will be dearly missed by his wife, Mary; one son, Jeremy Gilmore of Savanna; one brother, Wayne (Bev) Gilmore; two sisters, Colleen (David) Hitz and Carol Young; four sisters-in-law, Cissy, Jenny, Debbie Gilmore and Sandy (Larry) Crest; three brothers-in-law, Joe, Bob and Bill Randall and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Marty is preceded in death by his parents, Orville in 2010, and Fayetta in 2011; and two brothers, Gerald (Goldie) Gilmore and Terry Gilmore.
