Francis “Frank” Warta, 83 of Savanna, formerly of Shannon, Illinois died November 14, 2012 at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. A Funeral Mass will be held 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 19, 2012 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna. Visitation will be 9:00-10:00 a.m., prior to the Mass at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna.
A private graveside service will be held in the Saint Wendelin Catholic Cemetery, Shannon, Illinois. Memorials may be made in his memory to Knights of Columbus. Online condolences and tributes may be left for the family at

Frank was born on December 18, 1928 the son of John and Victoria (Schalbrach) Warta in New Jersey. He attended Doylestown High School, PA, and graduated from Delaware Valley State College, Doylestown, PA. He served in the United States Army, playing the tuba during the U.S. Reconstruction of Europe. On August 11, 1951, Frank married Doris Shelmire. Frank worked for U.S. Harvestore for many years. He was a life-long, devout practicing Catholic.
Frank will be dearly missed by his children, Mary (Steve Schneider) Schrage of Nebraska, Patricia Warta of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, Katherine (Gary) Crede of Mouth of Wilson, Virginia, Karen (Thomas) Williams of Russellville, Kentucky, Theresa (Craig) Dyar of Savannah, Georgia, Susan Warta of Bowling Green, Kentucky; sons, Thomas Warta of Florida, James Warta of Pennsylvania, Matthew Warta of Kentucky; 15 grandchildren, including Carri (David) Oslager of Elgin, Illinois, and eight great grandchildren.
Frank is preceded in death by his wife, Doris; both parents; a daughter, Carol Sword; sons, Francis Jr., Michael and Patrick Warta; grandsons, David Snetcher and Brock Williams, and son in-law Wayne Sword.
