Frances Lillian Barrow

Frances Lillian Barrow, age 90, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois and Rockford, Illinois passed away Tuesday, March 20, 2018 at her daughter’s home after an extended illness. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, 2018 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll, with Pastor Donna Hoffman of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior from 1:00 – 2:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial of ashes will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Mt. Carroll. Frances was born September 18, 1927 in Winona, Minnesota, the daughter of Melvin and Helen (Fifield) Langmo. She is a 1945 graduate of the Dodge Center High School. In 1958, Frances received a degree in Teaching from the University of Minnesota, and later a Masters Degree from Rockford College. On June 12, 1954, Frances married Harold Allen Barrow. They raised two children, Scott and Lynn Marie and two step children, Tami and Richard and celebrated 40 years of marriage. Harold passed away April 14, 1995 in Mt. Carroll.

Frances taught English and Drama in the Rockford School District for many years. She also participated in the gifted program the Rockford School district. Near retirement, Frances and Harold found an old limestone house in Mt. Carroll which they loved and restored for several years. Frances enjoyed gardening, sewing, attending the Willow Folk Festival, camping all over the U.S. with Harold, and traveling abroad with her sister. She and Harold were great supporters of the Timber Lake Playhouse near Mt. Carroll and members of the Mt. Carroll United Methodist Church.

Frances will be dearly missed by her daughter, Lynn Marie and husband, Tom Dickman of Rockford; 5 grandchildren, Tasa Watson, Christopher Schiller, Corey Schiller, Christopher Dickman and Michelle Dickman; 10 great grandchildren, Casey, Nathan, Jullianna, Autum, Jazlyn, Collin, Monica, Matthew, Jordan, and Lilly ; and a sister, Georgia Langmo Biessen. Frances is preceded in death by her husband, Harold; her son Scott; and both parents.
