Forrest Schave age 99, of Sterling, Illinois, passed away Sunday, December 22 2019, at Rock River Hospice & Home, Sterling, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Friday, December 27, 2019 at the Milledgeville Brethren Church, 521 N. Main Street, Milledgeville, IL 61051. Burial will take place in Greenview Cemetery, East Moline, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 4-7 pm, Thursday, December 26, 2019 at the church.
Forrest was born August 20, 1920, in East Moline, Illinois, the son of Ernst and Irene (Mosher) Schave. He is a 1938 graduate of the United Township High School, East Moline, IL. On August 17, 1940, Forrest married Margaret Herbert. They raised four children and celebrated 59 years of marriage until Margaret’s passing November 3, 1999.
Forrest was a farmer his whole life. He first farmed in Hampton Township, Rock Island County. He then moved in 1967 to Fairhaven Township to farm. He was a member of the Farm Bureau and National Wild Turkey Federation. He served on the Oak Ridge School Board. He was an avid hunter and in the year 2000 he was awarded the Wildlife Farm for the State of Illinois. He was a good steward of the earth. He enjoyed attending his grandchildren and great-grandchildren’s many sports adventures in the area.
Forrest will be dearly missed by his three sons, Dennis (Verna) Schave of Chadwick, Illinois, Reverend Todd (Cindy) Schave of Omaha, Nebraska, and David (Marilyn) Schave of Elburn, Illinois; a daughter, Terry Price of Lena, Illinois; 13 grandchildren and 2 step-grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren and 4 step-great-grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; three sisters, Lois (Joseph) Everett of Winfield, Iowa, Edith Sofos of San Mateo, California, and Carol Craton of Quad Cities, Illinois. Forrest is preceded in death by his parents Ernst and Irene; wife, Margaret; and two brothers, Clarence and Esley.
