Floyd K. Roberts

March 4, 1939 — February 4, 2025

Floyd K. Roberts, age 85, of Lanark, IL, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2025, at Heritage Woods in Freeport, IL.

Born in Alvin, IL, to Ralph and Sarah Roberts, Floyd grew up on the family hog farm and graduated from Bismark High School, where he participated in band and Future Farmers of America. He attended the University of Illinois, joining IlliDell, an agriculture fraternity.

He served two formative years in the US Army, stationed in Germany, where he forged lifelong friendships and traveled extensively in a used Mercedes he affectionately called “Benny”. Returning to Illinois, he completed his Agribusiness degree and met his first wife, Karen. They had two children, Stacey Keith and Brennen. Floyd’s career in advertising and sales took the family to various locations, including Milwaukee, the Chicago suburbs, New Jersey, New York, and Kentucky, before settling in Freeport, IL.

Floyd established his own trade publishing and communications firm, which he operated until retirement. Community involvement was a priority for him. He joined newcomer clubs, was active in the Jaycees in multiple locations, and was deeply involved in his churches, including serving as president of St. John's in Freeport, and was an active member of First Brethren in Lanark.

In 2005, he married Marsha Green and moved to Lanark. He became deeply committed to his community and was a founding member of the Eastland Area Community Fund, a non-profit organization supporting local causes. He was a proud parent and grandparent, delighting in supporting his extended family. For example, when his youngest son showed an interest in soccer, he worked with the Freeport YMCA to establish the town's first soccer program, which quickly grew from two teams to over 500 participants. He faced the difficult loss of his eldest son, Stacey Keith, and his step-daughter, Penny, with strength.

In recent years, Floyd faced health challenges and resided in assisted living. Even there, he remained engaged, participating in activities and connecting with others. He maintained a positive outlook and was known for his ability to connect with people.

Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Marsha Roberts; his son Brennen (Amanda) and their children, Noah, Addy, Owen, and Ella; his daughter-in-law EJ (Dave Green) and her children, Tyler and Ethan (Emerald); his step-daughter, Teresa Green, step-son-in-law Pat Reynolds, and their children, Caitlin, Erin, and Ryan; and his brother, Marvin (Phylis). He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Sarah Roberts; his son, Stacey Keith Roberts; his step-daughter, Penny Reynolds; and Grandson-in-law Max Bayer.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, February 22, at First Brethren Church, in Lanark, IL. Visitation will take place prior to the funeral service from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow at Lanark Cemetery in Lanark, IL.
