Floyd Wayne Mead, 61, of Savanna, Illinois died January 11, 2014. He was born November 19, 1952, the son of Floyd and Margaret Mead in Bloomington, Indiana. Floyd attended Bloomington schools and joined the United States Army in 1969. He spent 9 of his 14 service years overseas. He was a Vietnam Veteran and finished his career at the Savanna Army Depot, retiring in 2000. He also retired again in 2011 after working 13 years at Nestle-Purina in Clinton, Iowa. Floyd married Linda Miller in 1983. He was an avid bass fisherman and enjoyed woodworking, watching NASCAR and football. He followed his retirement dream by wintering in Florida, fishing the big lakes and the Mississippi Pool 13, in the summer.
Floyd was preceded in death by his father, mother, Margaret Mead and sister Ruth Ann Yetsie. Floyd is survived by his former wife and best friend Linda, his sister Brenda (Dennis) Stewart, nieces Mary and Stephanie, nephews Steve, Mike and Brian. A celebration of life will be held at the Savanna VFW, Saturday February 8th from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Memorials will be donated to the VFW, Savanna.
