Floyd Griffy

Floyd Griffy, age 69, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away Friday, May 26, 2017 in Houston, Texas. A graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Sunday, June 11, 2017 at Lower York Cemetery in Thomson, Illinois. Following the graveside service, a Celebration of Life will be held from 12:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m. at the Tipton Auction House in Thomson.
Floyd was born October 2, 1947 the son of James Leroy and Helen (Mason-Mascher) Griffy in Effingham, Illinois. He attended Newton High School and graduated with the Class of 1965. He received his Bachelor’s Degree in Music Education from Southern Illinois University of Carbondale. Floyd furthered his education with his Master’s Degree in Education from Western Illinois University in Macomb, Illinois. Floyd married the love of his life Kathy Eslinger on June 20, 1970. Floyd taught music for grades 5 thru 12 from 1969 – 1991 Thomson Schools. Floyd later took over Griffy Jewelry Stores in Olney, Illinois and Newton, Illinois until retiring in 2016.
Floyd was a member of the Thomson American Legion Post Donald Ashpole #1025 in Thomson, the Olney Petroleum Club, the Onley Elks and the Newton Masonic Lodge #216.
Floyd will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 46 years, Kathy of Thomson; two sons, Garrett (Sheena) Griffy of Fulton, Illinois, Brent (Julie) Griffy of Katy, Texas; five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Katherine, Garrick, Kara Griffy, Kearra Kohrt and a brother, Clyde (Linda) Griffy of Cummings, Georgia. Floyd was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, James Griffy and a nephew, Philip Griffy.
