Florence L. Stingley, age 84, of Savanna, Illinois, died Monday, September 13, 2010, at the St. Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates, Illinois. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, September 18, 2010, at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Savanna. Burial will follow in the St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery, Savanna. A visitation will be held from 5 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, September 17, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home in Savanna, with a Scripture Service to be held at 7:45 p.m. Memorials may be directed to the family in Florence’s memory. Florence was born January 16, 1926, in Monticello, Iowa, the daughter of Neil and Mary (Kammerman) Mullen. She married Eugene A. Stingley on November 10, 1950, in Galena, Illinois. Eugene preceded her in death on March 1, 1996.

Florence was a homemaker who loved to take care of her family, and she cherished the time she was able to spend with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also worked for Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna which allowed her to care for many other people in the community as well. Florence loved the outdoors and wildlife, especially cardinals, and feeding the deer and wild turkey near her home. She also loved music and dancing and was an exceptional singer who performed with Lawrence Welk in Iowa before he became famous. Florence was a master chef who will be remembered for her potato salad and peanut butter fudge.

Florence is survived and lovingly remembered by two daughters, Marilyn Sue (David) Sorensen of South Elgin, Illinois, and Kimberley Mae Welk of Du Pere, Wisconsin; two sons, Michael E. Stingley and Beulah Stingley of Savanna, Illinois, and Robert Lee (Cyndi) Austin of Vidor, Texas; sixteen grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two brothers, James Lee Kelley and Lawrence “Larry“ Michael Kelley, both of Savanna; two nieces and one nephew (Stingley); three nieces and one nephew (Kelley). Florence was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Eugene A. Stingley and son, David A. Stingley
