Florence Arlene Law, age 81, of Savanna, Illinois, died Friday, November 4, 2011, at St. Marys Hospital, Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 8, 2011 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna. Burial will follow in the Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 3:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 7, 2011, at Law – Jones Funeral Home in Savanna and from 9:00 to 10:00 a.m. prior to the funeral at the church. A memorial fund has been established in Florence’s memory.
Florence was born April 20, 1930, in Savanna, the daughter of Albert Glen and Clara (Heinze) Siedenburg. She attended Milledgeville Elementary School and graduated from Mt. Carroll High School with the Class of 1949. Florence married Merle Law on October 18, 1953 in Savanna.
Florence worked with her husband Merle, farming. She also worked as a waitress for numerous restaurants for forty years, including Grimm’s Restaurant in Savanna and the Mt. Carroll Café, retiring in 2007. Florence was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Savanna and the 4 C’s Primetimers. She enjoyed dancing, playing cards with family and friends, playing Bingo and going to the casino. Most of all she enjoyed spending time with her family and the latest joy in her life was her two great grandsons, Gavin and Gage.
Florence is survived by her husband, Merle of Savanna; one daughter, Cindy Ottens of Savanna; two sons, Kevin (Lori) Law of Savanna and Scott (Teresa Benischek) Law of Savanna; two grandchildren, Thomas Sisson and Emily (Dylan) Smith; two great grandsons, Gavin and Gage Smith; one brother, Donald Siedenburg of Grants Pass, Oregon; two special nieces; several nieces and nephews; and many great nieces and nephews. Florence is preceded in death by a daughter at birth, Roxanne; a sister, Lucille Swenson; a sister in-law, Eleanor Siedenburg; both parents; and great nephew, Brandon Keller.
