Fayetta DeSpain Gilmore, age 83, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Monday, February 21, 2011, at Good Samaritan Nursing Home, Mt. Carroll. A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 26, 2011, at the Frank – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. A visitation will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Saturday prior to the memorial service at the funeral home.
Fayetta was born April 15, 1927, in Osawatomie, Kansas, the daughter of Luther and Julia A. (Tarnur) DeSpain Jr. She married Orville Gilmore and they later divorced. Fayetta owned her own beauty shop in Mt. Carroll. She also worked at the Savanna Army Depot for 13 years, the Savanna Garment Factory and at Hadley’s Restaurant. She enjoyed singing, reading, old movies, especially “Pride and Prejudice”, puzzles, and playing cards. Fayetta was always most comfortable holding her dog Muffin in her chair.
Fayetta is survived and lovingly remembered by her children, Colleen F. (David) Hitz of Manteno, Illinois, Wayne D. (Beverly) Gilmore of Thomson, Illinois, Terry L. (Cleta) Gilmore of Mt. Carroll, Frank “Marty” (Mary) Gilmore of Savanna, Illinois, and Carol J. Young of Mt. Carroll; one daughter – in – law, Jennifer Gilmore of Texas; seventeen grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren; one brother, Phil (Diana) DeSpain of Savanna; many nieces and nephews; and her loving dog, Muffin.
Fayetta was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Gerald “Goldie” Gilmore; six brothers; four sisters; and one granddaughter, Tamara Hope Gilmore.
