Faye Shellhause

March 28, 1943 — January 22, 2014

Faye Etta Shellhause, age 70 of Lanark, Illinois, had a terrific outlook on life and always put others’ well-being ahead of her own. She passed through the gates of heaven on Wednesday, January 22, 2014 at the University of Wisconsin Hospital and Clinics, Madison, Wisconsin.
A funeral service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at Brookville United Methodist Church, rural Polo, Illinois with Pastor Jerry Martz officiating. Burial will take place in Schriner Cemetery, rural Lanark. A visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m., prior to the service at the church. Faye was born on March 28, 1943, the daughter of Leonard and Betty (Earlenbaugh) Sweitzer in rural Lanark. She attended Lanark High School, graduating with the Class of 1961. She married Stephen Shellhause, Sr. on June 25, 1961 at the Cherry Grove Church of the Brethren, Lanark.
Faye and her husband, Steve farmed side by side in rural Lanark their entire lives. They were members of the Brookville United Methodist Church, where Faye taught Sunday school for several years. Faye enjoyed having a large garden and canning all the produce. She was an excellent cook and everything she made was delicious, especially her fried chicken, potato salad, chocolate cake and Sunday cinnamon rolls. She collected Country Cousins figurines and enjoyed feeding and watching all the species of birds that visited her feeders. Most of all, Faye loved spending time with her family and friends, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Faye will be dearly missed by her husband, Steve; three children, Deb (Dennis Plattenberger) Zuck, Steve (Susan) Shellhause, Jr. and Todd Shellhause, all of Lanark. Six grandchildren, Josh (Angie) Zuck, Ryan (Coley) Zuck, Jared (Chelsea Bordner) Shellhause, Levi Shellhause and Austin and Hannah Shellhause; three great grandchildren, Ella, Cowen and Harlie; her mother, Betty Sweitzer of Lanark; two brothers, Dan Sweitzer of Lanark and Kim (Deb) Sweitzer of Mt. Carroll; one brother in-law, Gary (Sue) Shellhause of Lena, Illinois; one sister in-law, Barb Sweitzer of Freeport, Illinois; a former daughter in-law. Gina Shellhause of Freeport; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Faye was preceded in death by her father, Leonard and one brother, Larry.
