Fay “Bud” Smith, age 88 of Lanark, Illinois passed away February 1, 2015 at home with his wife by his side. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 5, 2015 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark. Burial will take place in Lanark Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be given to Trinity Lutheran Church in Bud’s memory.
Bud was born on December 19, 1926 the son of Jacob and Ethel (Rogers) Smith in Carroll County. He attended Cloverdale Grade School and Lanark High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. Bud’s married his devoted and loving wife, Alvera Martz on October 22, 1947. Bud farmed most of his life until he retired in 1990. He also drove truck for Lanark Ready Mix part time for ten years. Bud was a trustee for twenty years for Rock Creek-Lima Township.
Bud was Governor of the Savanna Moose Lodge for two years and was chosen “Man of the Year” in 1985 were he was a member for fifty five years. He was also a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Lanark.
Bud is survived by his loving wife of sixty seven years, Alvera; a beloved daughter, Paulette (Terry) Rahn of Lanark; a loving daughter in-law, Bonnie Saunders-Smith of Polo,Illinois; six grandchildren, Kari (Barry) Matznick, Karla (Heath) Merlak, Lora (David) Ackeburg, Troy (Marddi) Rahn, Emily (Fiance Justin) Kradle, Adam Kradle; ten great grandchildren; one brother, Duane (Pat) Smith. Bud is preceded in death by his parents; a son Rick Smith; a daughter, Alene Smith-Kradle; two brothers, Franklin (Lavonne) Smith, Francis (Polly) Smith; six sisters, Betty (Otto) Kniss, Ellen (Bernard) Manning, Barbara (Edwin) Butts, Alice (Carroll) Landherr, Donna (Delvin) Bausman and Ruth Cook.
