Faith Anne Johnson

d. February 5, 2007

Faith Anne Johnson, age 76, of Georgetown, Texas, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007. A Grave-side memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday May 27, 2007, at Fairhaven Cemetery in Chadwick, Illinois.

Faith Anne was born in Watertown, Wisconsin on July 2, 1930, to Vernie Christina and the Reverend Frank O. Broesicke. Reared in the small community of Waterloo, Wisconsin, where her father served as a Lutheran pastor, she attended school there until the middle of her junior year. Her family then moved to Goliad, Texas where Faith completed her junior year of high school. In September 1947, she was accepted as an early entrant at Carthage College, now located in Kenosha, Wisconsin. After completing a B.A. degree in English, history and secondary education, Faith served as an elementary teacher in the Rockford and Bellwood, Illinois Public Schools for seven years. During that time, she became certified to teach at all levels in Illinois. She became a fulltime homemaker in 1958 when her first son, Jeffrey Mark was born and returned to teaching in 1964 after her younger son, Eric Frank, entered school.

In 1967, the family moved to Temple, Texas and Faith attended the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor to earn a Texas teaching certification. Since 1968, she served 27 years in the Temple Independent School District as an elementary teacher, a part-time adult education instructor, and Coordinator of Federal/State Programs. Faith earned her M.S. degree and her Reading Specialist certification from Baylor University in 1974. She completed her doctorate in educational administration in August 1982. A part-time adult educator all of her adult life, Faith completed an English Second Language Certification in 1990 at Texas A & I University.

Faith began singing in church choirs as a little girl and sang in Lutheran choirs throughout her life. Her fondest memory was singing in the Carthage College a cappella choir during her college years. This choir performed “The Elijah” and “Messiah” oratorias and went on tours once a year.

In addition to singing, she played the piano and flute in school, city bands and orchestras throughout her school years. Her love of music and art is shared by sons, Jeffrey Mark and Eric Frank. After retirement in 1997, Faith moved to a smaller home in Georgetown, Texas and transferred her long-time membership from First Lutheran Church of Temple, Texas to Christ Lutheran Church of Georgetown.

Faith was preceded in death by her maternal grandmother, Christina Magdalena Schleuning; her older sister, Dorothy Bertha Broesicke; her father, Reverend Frank Otto Broesicke; and her mother, Vernie Christina Broesicke. She is survived by her older son, Jeffrey Mark and his wife, Martie and younger son, Eric Frank and his wife, Bernadette and their daughter, River Elle.
