Everett E. LaShelle, age 73, of Thomson, Illinois, died Sunday, March 15, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center - South in Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 19, 2009, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois. Burial will follow in the Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18, at the Law - Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. A memorial has been established in Everett’s name.

Everett was born January 22, 1936, in Thomson, Illinois, the son of Ernest E. and Eliza J. (Harding) LaShelle. Everett served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. He also served in the Army Reserves in Freeport, Illinois. Everett was united in marriage to Lorel King on February 17, 1968, in Rock Falls, Illinois.

Everett was a self employed truck driver for most of his life. He also worked as a truck mechanic for Eagle Stores and worked highway construction in Illinois. Everett was a Past Commander of the Thomson American Legion and was also a member of the Thomson Methodist Church. He loved to garden and cut wood with his sons, and he loved family gatherings and always made the BEST potato salad for them. Everett was very active with the Thomson Melon Days and organizing the Thomson Community Dinner.

Everett is survived by his wife Lori LaShelle of Thomson, Illinois; three sons, Everett (Angie Renkes) LaShelle of Morrison, Illinois, James “Boomer” (Kristi) LaShelle of Fulton, Illinois, and Joseph (Brenda) LaShelle of Mt. Carroll, Illinois; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Gerald (Deana) LaShelle of Fulton, Illinois, and Frank (Joyce) LaShelle of Thomson; one sister, Mary Lou Houzenga of Thomson; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Everett was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Donald Leroy LaShelle; and one brother - in - law, Leland Houzenga.
