Evelyn J. Hartigan, age 70 of Sabula, Iowa, died on Tuesday, February 4, 2014 at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, Iowa, where she has been a resident since 1986 due to a debilitating heart attack. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A memorial gathering will be held from 9:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, April 5, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014 at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born on June 22, 1943, the daughter of Lawrence and Wilma (Fleming) Hileman in Marion, Indiana. She was raised in Elgin, Illinois and graduated from Larkin High School with the Class of 1961. She married William Johnson on October 7, 1961 in Elgin. She later married George Hartigan on October 15, 1971 and later moved to Sabula.
Evelyn worked for the Oxford Speaker Factory in Sabula and Alco Manufacturing in Savanna. She also worked at the Hop & Shop in Sabula. She enjoyed spending time sitting around the fireplace. Most of all, Evelyn cherished spending time with her family and friends.
Evelyn will be dearly missed by her two sons, Larry (Denise) Johnson of Shannon, Illinois and Ron (Isabelle) Johnson of Preston, Iowa; five grandchildren, Jessica, Kimberly, Samantha, Tyler and Ashley Johnson; three sisters, Vivian Hileman of Huntley, Illinois, Virginia (Matt) Meyer of Huntley and Kathleen (Raleigh) Sutton of Elgin. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents and her husband, George.
