Evelyn Gray

March 19, 1928 — December 28, 2014

Evelyn Rose Gray, age 86, of Thomson, Illinois, passed away on Sunday, December 28, 2014 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery. Visitation will be held 10:00 – 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 31, 2014 prior to the service at the funeral home.
Evelyn was born March 19, 1928, the daughter of John and Minnie (Ferguson) Ashpole in Thomson. She attended Thomson High School and graduated with the Class of 1946. On January 15, 1949, she married the love of her life Robert Gray in Lanark, Illinois. Robert passed away March 28, 2013. Evelyn worked as a waitress; she took care of office work for Cook Electric and handled lab work. Evelyn was a great mother and truly enjoyed being a homemaker taking care of her family.
Evelyn was an avid Chicago Cubs fan. She enjoyed riding her bike, reading, computer games. Most of all she cherished her time spent with friends and family especially trips with her daughters.
Evelyn will be dearly missed by her four sons, Thomas (Lori) Gray of Pendleton, Oregon, Timothy (Pamela) Gray of Davenport, Iowa, John (Valerie) Gray of Buckeye, Arizona, Robert (Maria) Gray of Mill Creek, Washington; three daughters, Ann (James) Potter of South Elgin, Illinois, Judith (Craig) Wartinbee of Genoa, Illinois, Kathy Goudeau of Thomson, Illinois; twenty-one grandchildren; sixteen great grandchildren; and a sister in-law, Joyce Ashpole of Alton, Illinois. Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Robert; four brothers, Donald, Harold, Henry, Robert; and three sisters, Lauara Christenson, Grace Sorenson and Hazel Fehler.
