Eunice was born October 5, 1922, in Savanna, IL, the daughter of Earl and Cora (Diehl) Ritchie. She graduated from Savanna High School with the class of 1940. Following graduation, Eunice worked for the local telephone company for two years, before starting at the Savanna Army Depot. She worked there for 18 years, retiring in 1985. On November 4, 1948, Eunice married Robert L. Bowers. They celebrated 48 years of marriage before his passing in 1997.
Eunice was the type of woman who enjoyed life, no matter the task at hand. She loved to sew, cook, care for her home, tend to her flower gardens, and do yard work. She was mowing her yard well into her 90’s! She was an avid reader and found joy in the simplest things. Eunice and Robert spent many evenings sitting on the porch, admiring the Mississippi River, the shifting sky, and the stars. Always a Green Bay Packers fan, she made a point to watch each of their games. She was a fan until the end; even as her eyesight started to go, she still listened attentively to the broadcasts.
Eunice was blessed with a long life full of wonderful memories and a family she cherished. She will be dearly missed by her daughter, Joan Kriehn, of Noblesville, IN; six grandchildren, Steven, James, Greg, Kristi, Jeff, and Laura; 10 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Eunice is preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Cora; husband, Robert; brothers, Raymond Ritchie, Bernard Ritchie, and Boyd “Dude” (Sally) Ritchie; sister, Ruth Ermel; son, Robert E. Bowers; and son-in-law, David Kriehn.
