Eugene H. Welch, age 75, of Sabula, Iowa, died Saturday, February 23, 2008, at his home in Sabula. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 am Wednesday, February 27th, at the Calvary Lutheran Church in Sabula, Reverend Robert Krueger will officiate. Visitation will be held Tuesday, February 26th, from 4 – 8 pm at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Sabula. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Memorials may be directed to the family.

Eugene was born October 17, 1932, in rural Preston, Iowa, the son of Marshall E. and Anna (Henrichsen) Welch. He attended school in rural Sabula. Eugene married Barbara Stoddard on February 26, 1956, at the Methodist Church in Savanna, Illinois. Eugene and Barbara owned and operated GND Inc. in Sabula for thirty – four years. He was a member of the American Legion, the Jackson County Conservation Board, the Business Men’s Association of Sabula, was a charter member of the Sabula Ducks Unlimited, and taught hunter’s safety courses. Most importantly, Eugene loved to spend time with all of his grandchildren.

Eugene will be dearly missed by his wife Barbara Welch of Sabula; three sons, Doug (Pam) Heidenreich of Sabula, Eugene (Faith) Welch Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and Steven (Teri) Welch of Sabula; two daughters, Julie (Jerry) Burman of Clinton, Iowa, and Penny Welch of Sabula; fifteen grandchildren and seven great – grandchildren; three brothers, Donald (Myrna) Welch of Fulton, Illinois, Vernon (Joyce) Welch of Bellevue, Iowa, and Ronald Welch of Sabula; three sisters, Marie (Donald) Wyant of Clinton, Helen Rickliff of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Ruth (Jerry) Macy of Teeds Grove, Iowa; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Eugene was preceded in death by his parents and three grandchildren.
