Etta L. David, age 88, of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 15, 2007 in the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 23, 2007 at the First United Methodist Church in Savanna, Illinois. A memorial gathering will be held from 10:00-11:00 a.m., one hour prior to service at the church. Interment of her cremated remains will be in Chatfield, Minnesota at a later date. A memorial fund has been established in Etta’s memory.
Etta was born on October 25, 1918 in Lake Benton, Minnesota the daughter of Joseph and Anne (Atkins) Hastings. She attended Savanna High School and graduated with the class of 1937. Etta married Hartzel David on March 9, 1941 in Red Oak, Iowa. Hartzel passed away on March 16, 1962 in Rochester, Minnesota.
Etta was Bookkeeper for Adams and Dabron Department Stores, Ben Mills Real Estate and John Krahn Chevrolet all in Savanna. She also worked for the Radke Hotel in Savanna as a manager for over ten years. Etta was a Past President for the P.T.A. and the Mother’s Study Club. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was active in the Women’s Circle. Etta liked reading, sewing, baking, and sharing her baked goods with everyone she knew. She also enjoyed gardening, flowers and bird watching. Most of all Etta loved spending time with her family.
Etta is survived by her two sons, William (Heidrun) David of Savanna, Illinois and Robert (Kristi) David of Savanna, Illinois; one daughter, Karen (William) Schroeder of Conyers, Georgia; one sister, Inez Johns of Savanna; six grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
Etta is preceded in death by her husband, Hartzel; four brothers and five sisters.
