Ethel Hendrick, age 86, of Savanna died Thursday, September 8, 2011 after a brief stay in the hospital. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother. A funeral service will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday, September 12, 2011 at the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mt. Carroll. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. Visitation will be held from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. Sunday, September 11, 2011 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. In lieu of flowers memorials may be donated for Mooseheart. Ethel was born November 29, 1924 in the little town of Caselton in Stark County, Illinois. She attended the Wyoming High School. On January 13, 1942, Ethel married Jim Hendrick in Kahoka, Missouri. They farmed a short time near Wyoming, then moved to Savanna. They raised three sons. Ethel worked at the Savanna Garment Factory and was a farm wife. For the past twenty-seven years, she and Jim wintered at Weslaco, Texas.
Ethel was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mt. Carroll and the Savanna Women of the Moose. She loved driving her Oliver Tractor in parades, dancing, camping, was an avid reader and awesome cook.
Ethel will be dearly missed by her husband, Jim of Savanna; two sons, Wayne “Rusty” Hendrick of Carson City, Nevada and Rodney (Nancy) Hendrick of Rockford; nine grandchildren and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. Ethel is preceded in death by a son, Albert and three sisters, Alma Crouse, Erma Jackson and Pauline Dixon. A special thank you to the Ladies for helping Mom in her last months.
