Estella was born September 16, 1923 in Fulton, Illinois, the daughter of Bernie and Nellie (Shipma) Engelkens. She graduated eighth-grade from the Fulton Christian School and attended (the) Fulton High School. On September 28, 1948, Estella married Lawrence Dyson in Lanark. They raised three children and celebrated forty-eight years of marriage. Estella was a good homemaker and great Mom her entire life.
Estella was a member of the Faith Reformed Church of Lanark and the Carroll County Farm Bureau. She enjoyed contributing and working at the Savanna Thrift Store. Estella would say, "I love that Church, I can feel God's presence there!" when talking about the Faith Reformed Church. She built her faith on the Word of God, studying the Bible daily. She also shared her love for family by cooking, always doing it the old-fashioned way, "a pinch of this and a pinch of that." Her family fondly remembers her fried chicken, chicken and noodles, and plentiful desserts. Estella loved butterflies, watching birds, and loved her cat, Buddy.
A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, December 19, 2013 at the Faith Reformed Church of Lanark with Reverend Herb Bollman officiating. Burial will be in the Lanark City Cemetery.
