Erma L. “Little Gramma” Richter, age 97, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois died Sunday, September 21, 2014 at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna, Illinois. A funeral service will be held Thursday, September 25, 2014, 11:00 a.m. at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll with Pastor Donna Hoffman officiating. Burial will take place in Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll. Visitation will be held from 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 24, 2014 at Law-Jones Funeral Home in Mt. Carroll. In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Erma’s memory.
Erma was born January 11, 1917 in Savanna, the daughter of Russell and Pearl (Lovely) Marth. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1934. During her life time she owned and operated Richter’s Café, Hilltop Beauty Shop, farmed and later worked at the Carolyn Mark Home in Mt. Carroll.
Erma was a member of the United Methodist Church in Mt. Carroll. She enjoyed bowling, music and dancing. She was an avid Chicago Cubs and Bulls fan. Erma treasured volunteering at the Carroll County Good Samaritan, putting puzzles together, embroidery and handiwork. Most of all she cherished the time spent with her daughters, and their families.
Erma will be dearly missed by her two daughters, Anita (Robert) Grimm of Mt. Carroll, Rita (Lester) Mitchell of Thomson, Illinois; six grandchildren, Gerry (Jan) Grimm of Dixon, Illinois, Nick (Michelle) Grimm of Elgin, Illinois, Gina (Bob) Hale of Mt. Carroll, Tim (Verna) Mitchell of Savanna, Illinois, Rick (Shawn) Mitchell of Rancho Santa Fe, California, Jim (Beth) Mitchell of Erie, Illinois; eight great grandchildren, Krista, Kayla Hale, Blake, Brent, Kyle Grimm, Samantha, Katie, Kelli Mitchell. Erma is preceded in death by her parents; an infant daughter, Tina; a sister, Ruth Anderson; two brothers, Bob and Edward Marth.
