Emmert G. Zumdahl, age 92, of Sterling, Illinois, a lifelong resident of Chadwick, Illinois, died January 6, 2009, at his home in Sterling. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, 2008, at the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick, with Rev. Melwyn Alagodi officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Chadwick Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10 – 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 10, prior to the service at church. A memorial has been established for the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick.
Emmert was born March 3, 1916, in Shannon, Illinois, the son of George and Jenny (Daniels) Zumdahl. He married Velda Harter on March 29, 1941. Emmert owned and operated the Zumdahl Tiling Service for over thirty years. He was a Naval Veteran serving in the South Pacific on a patrol craft during World War II.
Emmert was a member of the Hope United Methodist Church in Chadwick, Illinois, he served on the Chadwick School Board and was Chairman of the Board of Farmers State Bank of Chadwick for many years. He was intensely loyal to his family, his church, and the Chicago Cubs.
Emmert is survived by his wife Velda; three sons, Steven (Susan) Zumdahl of Seymour, Illinois, David (Susan) Zumdahl of Byron, Illinois, and Mark (Margaret) Zumdahl of Sterling, Illinois; ten grandchildren and thirteen great - grandchildren.
Emmert was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, August Zumdahl.
