Elwyn Harold Turnbaugh, age 89, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died Tuesday, June 21, 2011 at home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 25, 2011 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll with Pastor Carl Zager officiating. Burial will be in Lanark Cemetery, Lanark, Illinois. Visitation will be held from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday, June 24, 2011 at Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mt. Carroll. A memorial fund has been established in Elwyn’s memory.
Elwyn was born January 23, 1922 in Fairhaven Township rural Chadwick, Illinois, the son of Harold J. and Violet (Queckboerner) Turnbaugh. On September 15, 1946 Elwyn married Virginia Miller in Fairhaven. Elwyn farmed near Mt. Carroll until he retired in 1988. Elwyn was a member of the Farm Bureau in Mt. Carroll. He enjoyed watching TV, working in the garden, and helping on the family farm. Most of all, Elwyn loved spending time with his family.
Elwyn is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Virginia; three daughters, Mary Ann Turnbaugh of Mt. Carroll, Patricia (David) Diercks of Low Moor, Iowa, Connie (Stephen) Brown of German Valley, Illinois; two sons, Gregory (Shirley) Turnbaugh of Mt. Carroll, Douglas (Terrie) Turnbaugh of Mt. Carroll; nine grandchildren; two step grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; three step great grandchildren; one brother, Marvin (Sylvia) Turnbaugh of Sterling, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews. Elwyn was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Kandi Jo and his parents.
