Elmeda L. Bohnsack was a down-to-earth "country girl," who loved her faith, family, and friends. At the age of 91, Elmeda passed into Heaven on Christmas Day, Thursday, December 25, 2014 from the Elizabeth Nursing Home Grand View Estates, Elizabeth, Illinois. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 at St. Mary Catholic Church, Elizabeth. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 10:00 - 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 29, 2014 prior to the Mass, at the Church.
Elmeda was born August 4, 1923 in Long Hollow, Elizabeth Township, the daughter of Frank and Eda (Kern) Hill. She is a 1941 graduate of the Elizabeth High School, and immediately went to work at the Hanover Woolen Mill from 1941 to 1947. On April 19, 1947, Elmeda married Kenneth Bohnsack at St. Mary Catholic Church in Elizabeth. She and her husband farmed in the Elizabeth area for thirty-two years before retiring in 1982. They celebrated 45 years of marriage before Kenneth passed away November 3, 1992.
Elmeda was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church where she had served as Treasurer of the Altar and Rosary Society. She was a member of the Elizabeth Lioness Club and the Elizabeth Nursing Home Auxiliary. She loved farming, horses and country western music, taking care of her flowers, especially cactus, and spending time with family and friends
Elmeda is survived by four sisters, Rose Mary Hellstern of Woodstock, IL, Mary Ilene (Joe) Lamm of Stockton, IL, Barbara (Tom) Fitzsimmons of Modesto, CA, Delores Jakubek of Scottsdale, AZ; a brother-in-law, James Everts of Madison, WI; and many nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth in 1992; a brother Donald on December 10, 2014; two sisters, Frances Hill and Lois Everts; a niece, Joanne Jakubeck; a step-niece, Suzanne Sanders; and two brothers-in-law, Frances Hellstern and James Jakubek.
