Ellen Renee Spencer, age 55 of Thomson “Riverview”, Illinois, died suddenly on February 17, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m., Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. Burial will take place in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. A visitation will be held from 11:00-1:00 p.m., prior to the service at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established.
Ellen was born on January 11, 1961, the daughter of Ivry and Zoe (Bentley) Smith in Geneseo, Illinois. She was raised near Hillsdale, Illinois and attended Riverdale High School. She met Wilbert Spencer in 1992 and they were later married on July 24, 2005 in the Savanna Bible Church.
Ellen was a Material Handler for Rolling Hills Progress Center in Lanark, Illinois for several years. Ellen retired in 2001 and decided to spend time with her family spoiling her grandchildren. Ellen loved people and was always there for her family and friends. She enjoyed helping people and spent a lot of time volunteering at Big Meadows Nursing Home, Savanna. Ellen loved auctions, stock car racing and the outdoors, especially fishing.
Ellen will be forever missed by her dedicated husband, Wilbert Spencer, Jr.; six children, Catherine (Todd Guyton) Schork of Thomson, Christopher “Shadow” (Melissa Roth) of Clinton, Iowa, Candace (James Duncan) Pierce of Marengo, Iowa, Charlie Schork of Rockford, Illinois, Curtis Martin of Guam, and Cory (Christina Dersham) Spencer of Thomson, 13 grandchildren; one grandchild on the way in June; five step-great grandchildren, one sister, Elsie (Arthur) Ashpaugh of Milan, Illinois; and two brothers, Edward (Darilyn) Smith of Church Hills, Tennessee, and Dwayne Smith, Sr. of East Moline, Illinois; and many nieces and nephews.
Ellen was preceded in death by her grandparents; parents; two sisters, Diana Smith and Debbie Smith; and her best friend, Nona Irvine.
