Elizabeth “Betty” M. Pash of Hanover, Illinois, died at the age of 90 on Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at the Midwest Medical Center in Galena, Illinois. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, January 17, 2015 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Hanover. A visitation will be held from 5:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, January 16, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Hanover. A memorial fund has been established in Betty’s memory.
Betty was born January 4, 1925 in Zanesville, Ohio the daughter of Orville and Thelma (Paynter) Kuhns. She attended Hanover High School and graduated with the Class of 1943. She then attended beauty school in Davenport, Iowa. After beauty school she became a beautician in Elizabeth, Illinois where she met and married the love of her life Joe S. Pash on November 17, 1948 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover. They celebrated sixty-six years together. Betty and Joe lived on a farm in rural Stockton, Illinois, where Joe was a farmer on her brother Bill’s farm. They bought her grandfather and father’s farm in 1958, where Betty was a housewife, mother and the owner and operator of Betty’s Beauty Box. After selling the farm to her son, Betty and Joe moved to the other side of town and Betty continued to operate her beauty shop with her daughter Cheryl until her retirement.
Betty was a very kind and loving person and was never afraid to show it to people and animals. She cherished her husband, children, and grandchildren. She took pride in making sure her yard always looked nice and her garden always had the best vegetables for her to can. Betty treasured giving her children beautiful ceramics that she had hand made. She was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Hanover, VFW Ladies Auxiliary, Hanover.
Betty will be dearly missed by her husband of sixty-six years, Joe S. of Hanover; three daughters, Vicky (Jim Buckholz) Hastings of Hanover, Cheryl (Kenny) Durland of Yorkville, Illinois, Martha (Richard) Schwenk of Virginia Beach, Virginia; one son, Joe M. (Pat) Pash of Hanover; three grandsons; three granddaughters; three great grandsons; two great granddaughters; several nieces and nephews. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Geraldine (Gordon) Hatfield; brother, William Kuhns and two son in-laws, Allen Hastings, James P. Moore.
