Elizabeth Ann "Betty" Shrake

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Shrake of Savanna, IL, beloved Mother, Grandmother and Great-grandmother passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at home in Pinnacle Place, Savanna.

Betty was born June 3, 1938 in Monroe, Wisconsin, the daughter of Orville and Ethel (Burington) Mohns. When she was young, the family moved to Savanna where her father worked at the Army Depot. She is a 1958 graduate of Savanna High School. While she was still in high school, she met the love of her life, Irv Shrake. On July 6, 1958, Betty married Walter “Irv” Shrake. They raised four children, Sharon, Melissa, David and Daniel, and celebrated 61 years of marriage until Irv’s passing in 2019.

Betty loved the Savanna community and participated in the Savanna Women’s Club, Weight Watchers & TOPPS and the Red Hat Club. She also enjoyed visiting with friends, crocheting, cake decorating, and she loved reading her Bible, along with other Christian books. Betty will be remembered for her kind heart, her love of family, and her love of her Church and Jesus Christ.

She will be dearly missed by her children, Sharon (Robert) Reynolds of Paragould, Arkansas, Melissa (Maurice) White of Savanna, David Shrake of Boston, Massachusetts and Daniel Shrake of Savanna; her former son-in-law, Scott Stubblefield of Clinton, Iowa; five grandchildren, Keshia, Tara and Erika Stubblefield and Jeff and Charles Walter Reynolds; four great-grandchildren, Z-Kai, Z-Kari, Jullian and Grayson; and a sister-in-law, Esther Mohns of Fenton, Illinois.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband, Irv; a son at birth, Jonathon; her brother, Lawrence Mohns; her sister, Darlene (Jim) Ritter; and both parents.

A funeral service will be held 2pm Wednesday, December 6, 2023 at the Savanna Bible Church with visitation prior to the service from 12noon – 2pm, Wednesday at the Church. Burial will be in Spring Lake Cemetery, Savanna. Memorials may be made in her honor for the Savanna Bible Church.
