Elinor Hardacre had an open door and heart for everyone who needed encouragement, prayers, and love.

At the age of 91, Elinor passed away peacefully Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Winn Prairie Assisted Living in Freeport, entering the presence of her Savior. A Celebration of Life service will be held 11am Thursday, April 16, 2026 at Crossroads Community Church in Polo, Illinois. Visitation will be held 4-7pm Wednesday, April 15, 2026 at the Church in Polo. Memorials may be given in Elinor’s honor to further the education of nursing students through the Highland Community College Foundation. Even in her death, Elinor chose to help prepare others in healthcare by donating her body to Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa.

Elinor was born on July 2, 1934, in Rockford, to Clifford and Annette (Stott) Isenberger. She was raised in Lanark, growing up in a close-knit community, where she learned the importance of treating people with genuine care. She graduated from Lanark High School with the Class of 1952.

She married her high school sweetheart, Nello Blaine Hardacre, on December 11, 1954, at the Lanark Methodist Church. Elinor created their first home in Virginia where Blaine served in the U.S. Army. After his military service, they returned to the Lanark area, where they built a life together on the family dairy farm, restoring the historic Gold Mine Farm and raising their four children. Elinor and Blaine shared 67 years of devoted marriage until his passing in 2022.She pursued nursing with determination, studying at Wesley Memorial Hospital School of Nursing and furthering her education at Northwestern Medical Campus. Over a remarkable career spanning more than 60 years, she faithfully served in hospitals, schools, public health, rehabilitation, long-term care, and developmental disability settings. She especially loved working in the operating room, where her attentiveness and compassion were evident. Elinor continued working until the age of 84, retiring only to care for her beloved husband Blaine.

A woman of deep and abiding faith, Elinor was an active member of Crossroads Community Church of Polo, where she served in Kidzlink and touched many young lives. She later participated and worshiped at the Reformed Church of Forreston. She loved music, especially when her grandchildren were involved, and treasured Christmas celebrations centered on Christ.

Elinor will be dearly missed by her four children: Jeffrey (Gundi) Hardacre of Madison, WI; Amy (Rev. Lyle) Zumdahl of Forreston, IL; Bryan (Kristine) Hardacre of Lanark, IL; and Mark (Karen) Hardacre of Commerce City, CO; as well as her 12 grandchildren, and 21 great-grandchildren. She was deeply proud of her family and treasured the close relationships she shared with each of them. One of her greatest joys was seeing her family walk in faith and remain close to one another. She was preceded in death by her husband, Blaine, and two sisters, Barbara Lower and Mary Ann Caldwell.
