Eli George Burick-Young III, age 66, of Savanna, Illinois, formerly of Houston, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018, at home. A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 9, 2018 with a Rosary Service held at 7:00 p.m. at Cypress Creek Funeral Home, Houston. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, October 10, 2018 at Assumption Catholic Church, Houston. Burial will take place in Resthaven Cemetery, Houston. Donations may be made the Dominican Sisters of Houston Sacred Heart Convent, 6501 Almeda Rd, Houston, TX 77021 in Eli’s memory.
Eli was born February 8, 1952, in Rockford, Illinois, the son of Eli and Ruth (Salisbury) Burick II. He attended Gilford High School and graduated with the Class of 1970, he later attended, Rock Valley College, majoring in art. Eli and Rodney met on December 7, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois. On November 29, 1986, Eli married the love of his life Rodney Young in Rockford, Illinois. They celebrated 33 years together.
Eli worked as the Art Director at WREX Channel 13 in Rockford for many years. He also worked for the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America in Chicago, and later in Houston, until his retirement in 2007. Eli loved genealogy, decorating, restoration projects, he was also a member of the Savanna Historical Society. In 2013, Eli and Rodney purchased their dream home the Captain Cooley House in Savanna, which was built in 1858, Eli was very passionate about restoring the property.
Eli will be dearly missed by his husband of 33 years, Rodney; two grandchildren, Christopher and Sarah Clausen of Houston; two sisters, Kathy Burick-Sink and Jody Burick-Stieg, both of Rockford; two nephews, Mike Sink and Zach Stieg; and two nieces, Olivia and Brittany Stieg.
