Eldon H. Paulsen

Eldon Harvey Paulsen, age 70, formerly of Preston, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, August 11, 2010, at Genesis Hospital West Campus, Davenport, Iowa. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, August 16, 2010, at the Miller – Law – Jones Funeral Home in Preston, with Pastor’s Merle and Judy Paulsen officiating. Burial will follow in the Andover Cemetery, Andover, Iowa. Vistitation will be held from 3 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 15, at Miller – Law – Jones Funeral Home, Preston. Pallbearers will be Gerald Smithson, Roger Tarr, Glen Hand, Tom Beck, and Eldon’s grandsons Adam Steines, Jeffrey Paulsen Jr., and Koby Paulsen. Memorials may be made to the family. Eldon was born June 21, 1940, in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Harvey and Marie (Anderson) Paulsen. He graduated from Preston High School with the Class of 1957. Eldon married Joan Lois Eickert on December 8, 1957, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Clinton. Eldon was an owner/operator truck driver for several years and drove for Eagles Foods for 25 years where he was awarded the One Million Mile Award before retiring in 1997. After he retired, Eldon currently worked for the Scott County Conservation Commission as a maintenance worker at West Lake Park in Davenport, Iowa. He was Vice President of the Big Bend & Preston Little Leagues. Eldon enjoyed camping, traveling, going to his grandchildrens sporting events, music, especially classic country and polka, and his winters in Texas with Joan. Most importantly, he loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.Eldon is survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years, Joan; five children, Jeff (Kris) Paulsen of Preston, Iowa, Penny (Sam) Steines of Camanche, Iowa, Lisa (Scott) Steines of Camanche, Randy (Michelle) Paulsen of Clinton, Iowa, and Doug (LouAnn) Paulsen of Durant, Iowa; fourteen grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Eldon was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Gene Ray Paulsen.
