Eldon Arnold William Keil, age 86, of Sabula, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2008, at Eagle Point Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 22, 2008, at Calvary Lutheran Church, Sabula, Iowa, with Pastor Robert Krueger officiating. Burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula. Visitation will be held from 4:00-8:00 p.m. on Friday, March 21, 2008, at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home in Preston, Iowa. Eldon was born on October 22, 1921, the son of Arnold A. and Anna J. (Johnson) Keil, in rural Sabula, Iowa. He married Leola C. Mohr on January 4, 1942, in Bellevue, Iowa. Leola died on August 26, 1997, in Bellevue.
Eldon owned and operated the family farm in rural Sabula for many years, starting at the age of fourteen. From their farm, he sold eggs and cream to the people of Sabula. Eldon was a Golden Harvest Seed Representative for over thirty years, and was a salesman for Archer Oil for over fifty years. He was a charter member of the Sabula Calvary Lutheran Church, where he was also on the Lutheran Brotherhood Dartball Team. Eldon was a member of the Isaak Walton League in Sabula for over sixty years. He was also a member of the Preston and Sabula Senior Citizens. Eldon enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards, darts, and was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan. Most of all, Eldon loved spending time with his family and friends.
Eldon is survived by one daughter, Rojean (Dan) Scott of Sioux City, Iowa; daughter-in-law, Kay Keil of Sabula, Iowa; five grandchildren, Chrystal (Randy) House, Heather (Paul) Couser, Todd (Sylvia) Berg, Rennet (Chad) Gruver, Jeff (Jill) Berg; one granddaughter-in-law, Staci Berg; nine great-grandchildren, Kirstin, Jacob, Rachel, Kody, Aidan, Conor, Kylee, Jeremiah, and Sarah; three step-grandchildren, eight step-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Calvin (Frances) Keil of Whitewater, Wisconsin.
Eldon is preceded in death by his wife, Leola; one son, Roger; daughter-in-law, Susan Keil; one grandson, Greg; one granddaughter, Kolynn; and one brother, Leroy.
