Edward Ted “Spike” Stoddard, age 68, of Clinton, Iowa, formerly of Sabula, Iowa, died Friday, December 5, 2008, at Mercy Medical Center North, Clinton, Iowa. A Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, December 10, 2008, at the United Methodist Church, Sabula. A visitation will be held for one hour prior to the service at the church. Cremation Rites will be accorded following the service. Interment will take place in the Evergreen Cemetery, Sabula at a later date. Visitation will be held from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, December 9, 2008 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Sabula. A memorial fund has been established in Edward’s memory.
Edward was born on October 12, 1940, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Fredrick and Mary (Parson) Stoddard. He attended Sabula area schools. Edward was a Panel Operator for National By-Products, Clinton, Iowa for twenty-five years. He was a longtime member of the Sabula United Methodist Church. Edward loved listening to music, especially Elvis Presley. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing. Most of all, Edward loved spending time with his family and friends.
Edward is survived by four sons, Jerry (Amy) Stoddard of Clinton, Iowa, Guy (Joelle) Stoddard of Erie, Illinois, Gary (Gail) Stoddard of Maquoketa, Iowa, and Matthew Stoddard of Clinton, Iowa; three daughters, Mechelle (Sean) Justice of Clinton, Iowa, Melissa (William) Jackson of Clinton, Iowa, and Bonnie (Lowell) Gage of Clinton, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; three brothers, Martin (Shirley) Stoddard of Savanna, Illinois, Ronald (Joyce) Stoddard of Clinton, Iowa, and Jim (Salona) Stoddard of Clinton, Iowa; four sisters, Sally (Terry) Norman of Franklin, Georgia, Mary (Norbert) Bernal of Tuscan, Arizona, Shelly Stoddard of Preston, Iowa and Myrna (Ronald) Dague of Sabula; several nieces and nephews; and a dear friend, Cliff Robinson.
Edward is preceded in death by his parents; two sons, Gregory Stoddard and Dayton Bacon; and one foster-brother, Tom Dent.
