Edward L. Johnson, age 78, of Savanna, Illinois died Saturday, November 4, 2006, at his home. A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 10, 2006 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna, Illinois. Pastor Diane Jochum of FHN Hospice Pastoral Care in Freeport, Illinois will officiate. Friends may call from 1:00-2:00 p.m., prior to the Memorial Service, at Law-Jones Funeral Home. Inurnment will be in the Mouth of Stillman Cemetery, Stillman Valley, Illinois. Memorials may be given to FHN Hosipice in Edward's memory.
Edward was born on May 23, 1928, in Elmhurst, Illinois, the son of Louis and Ann (Lindroth) Johnson. Edward attended Bensenville Community High School, graduating with the class of 1946. He served in the Army as a Military Police Officer from 1947-1948, in Tokyo, Japan. Edward married Phyllis Kinnan on August 27, 1949 in Mason City, Iowa. In 1974, Edward and Phyllis moved from Bensenville to Savanna, where he operated Sandy Lane Resort.
Edward worked for the Milwaukee Railroad as a Locomotive Engineer from 1942 until his retirement in 1988. He also worked as a DuPage County Sheriff Deputy in the 1950's. Edward was a lifetime member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge in Savanna, Illinois. He was also a charter member of the Mississippi Flyway Sportsman Club and supported the Savanna Wrestling Boosters. Edward enjoyed searching for antiques at local auctions. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.
Edward will be deeply missed by his wife, Phyllis of Savanna, Illinois; three daughters, Kathleen (Bruce) Wilson of Barrington Hills, Illinois, Tina (Ruben) Garza of Bensenville, Illinois, and Connie (Pete) McCormick of Kailua-Kona, Hawaii; three sons, Michael Johnson of Willowbrook, Illinois, Patrick (Cheri) Johnson of Clinton, Iowa, and Timothy (Darcy) Johnson of Reedsburg, Wisconsin; one step-mother, Mae Johnson of Byron, Illinois; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents; and one sister, Marjorie Gathright.
