Edward I. Hiher, age 88 of Savanna, Illinois, died Tuesday, May 5, 2015 at home. A Funeral Mass will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 12, 2015 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Savanna with Father Dennis Atto as Celebrant. Burial will take place in St. John’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Savanna. A Rosary Service will be held at 3:30 p.m. prior to the visitation at the funeral home.
Ed was born August 25, 1926, the son of Arthur and Mildred (Tyler) Hiher in Savanna. He attended Savanna High School and graduated with the Class of 1944. After high school, he attended three years at the Milwaukee School of Engineering. Ed was drafted into the United States Army during World War II, where he served his country from 1944 to 1947. He married Marilyn Lease on June 30, 1956 in Savanna. Marilyn died January 23, 2006.
Ed worked as an Engineer for the Milwaukee Railroad for 37 years. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church and a past member of the Savanna American Legion. He loved to spend time outdoor, watching baseball games and going on day trips with the family.
Ed will be dearly missed by two sons, Edward Hiher Jr., and James Hiher of Savanna; three daughters, Tracy (Mark) Harrison of Clinton, Iowa, Mary Stephenson of Rockford, Illinois, and Cynthia (Michael) Johnson of Fulton, Illinois; one special daughter-in-law, Sheila Hiher of Thomson, Illinois; 9 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. Ed is preceded in death by his wife of 49 years, Marilyn; two brothers, Lawrence and Bernard Hiher; one sister, Doris Urbanik and his parents.
