Edward H. Feller

Jun 25, 1945 — Sep 21, 2026

Preston, IA

Edward Henry Feller, age 81, of Preston, Iowa, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, at Harmony in Dubuque.

Born on June 25, 1945, Ed was the son of Raymond and Mayme (Trenkamp) Feller. He grew up in Spragueville and attended Preston High School until his junior year, when he was drafted into the United States Army. Following his honorable military service, Ed went on a blind date where he met the love of his life, Alice Ross. The two were united in marriage and built a wonderful life together, living in DeWitt and Spragueville before eventually settling in Preston. Ed and Alice raised four children and celebrated 56 years of marriage.

A hardworking and multi-talented man, Ed spent his career at several local companies. He worked for 20 years at Central Steel, 10 years at Hoof, 8 years at Jackson Industries, and 6 years as a filler on the line at Pacific Coast before retiring.

Ed's greatest passion in life, aside from his family, was sports. He played fast-pitch softball for many years and was instrumental in teaching the youth of Spragueville how to play baseball and football. He loved nothing more than playing sports with his kids. A die-hard Chicago Cubs and Bears fan, and treasured time spent bonding with his family over his teams.

When he wasn't watching or playing sports, Ed enjoyed squirrel and rabbit hunting, as well as fishing. He was a proud member of the Spragueville American Legion. At home, he was famous for his incredibly spicy chili, a recipe his family will never forget. Another favorite of Ed’s was making his daily rounds around town, where he could usually be found stopping in at Oly’s Gas Station to give everyone a little good-natured harassment—and, of course, plenty of laughs along the way.

Ed will be deeply missed by his loving wife, Alice Feller of Preston; his three children, Kenneth (Jennifer) Feller of Clinton, Sandra (Craig) Volquardsen of Miles, and Terrence (Andrea) Feller of Preston; five grandchildren; six step-grandchildren; ten step-great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; his brothers, Eugene Feller of Maquoketa, and Henry "Hank" Feller of Spragueville; his sister, Kathleen Feller of Spragueville; and his siter-in-law, Kathy Feller of Camanche. He is also survived by his In-Laws, Nancy and Aaron Smith, and a brother-in-law, Dick Ross.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mayme; his son, Raymond; his brothers, Bernard and Frank; his sister, Donna May; his sisters-in-law, Donita, Joan, Shirley, and Betty; brother-in-law, Lester; and his parents-in-law, Ferdinand and Mary Ross.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, September 25, at the Law Jones Funeral Home in Preston, with burial to follow at St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. A visitation will be Thursday, September 24, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., at the funeral home, as well as one hour prior to the service on Friday.

In true Ed fashion, and in honor of his lifelong love for sports, the family invites everyone to dress comfortably and wear their favorite sports jersey to the services.

Edward’s entire family would like to thank Harmony House in Dubuque, St Croix Hospice, Dr Sieg, and Mercy One in Clinton for all of their support.
