Edward John Brunning, age 77, of Maquoketa, Iowa, previously of rural Miles, Iowa, passed away Sunday, October 5, 2014 at Clover Ridge Place, Maquoketa. A funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Thursday, October 9, 2014 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Burial will be in the Reeseville Cemetery, rural Miles. Visitation will be held 4:00 - 7:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 8, 2014 at the Funeral Home.
Ed was born June 17, 1937 in a farm house by the Reeseville Cemetery, the son of Raymond and Leolinda (Thiesen) Brunning. He is a graduate of Miles High School with the Class of 1956. Ed served in the US Army from 1956 to 1959. On July 2, 1962, he married Arlene Engle, this ended in divorce in 1973.
Ed worked as a Tool & Die Maker for Clinton Engines for twenty-four years, as a Machinist for John Deere for five years, and a machinist for Jackson Industries for ten years. He retired at the age of 62. Ed also farmed the home-place near Green Island. He liked hunting deer, fishing in Canada, his children and his grandchildren.
Ed is survived by three children, Barbara Paulsen and Tom, Cheryl and Joseph Strazza, and Kevin Brunning and Anna; four grandchildren, Mitch, Jessica, Bryon and Ryan; two great-granddaughters, Lily and Sophie; and three foreign exchange grandchildren, Sandra, Charlotte and Kyra. Ed is preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Jeloyce Clark.
