Earl J. Meyer, age 79, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died Monday, April 30, 2012, at FHN Memorial Hospital. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at the Church of St. Mary in Elizabeth with Father Noel Jacob as Celebrant. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Elizabeth. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, May 4, 2012 at the Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth with a Rosary Service being held at 7:00 p.m.
Earl was born October 20, 1932, on the family farm in rural Elizabeth, the son of Lawrence and Theresa (Davis) Meyer. He married Imelda Cady on November 22, 1958, in Dubuque, Iowa. She preceded him in death on December 14, 2001. Earl proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War.
Earl farmed his entire life in the Elizabeth area, retiring in 1995. He then went to work as an agriculture technician at Chestnut Mt. Resort in Galena, Illinois. Earl was a lifetime member of the Church of St. Mary’s in Elizabeth and the Knights of Columbus. He loved to watch all kinds of sports.
Earl is survived by his two children, Sylvia (Kurt) Blaser of Dakota, Illinois and Wayne J. (Mari) Meyer of Frederick, Maryland; three grandchildren, Angela, Kyle and Dallas Blaser; one great granddaughter, Lauren; and one brother, Lynn (Sue) Meyer of Freeport, Illinois.
Earl was preceded in death by Imelda Meyer; his sister Ruth Klaas; and one step-sister, Alice Endress.
