DuWayne Vos centered his life around his faith and family. Friends and family would often see him mowing with his John Deere and sharing his sense of humor. At the age of 96, DuWayne passed away on November 5, 2014, at the Good Samaritan Society, Mt. Carroll. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 10, 2014 at the Hope United Methodist Church, Chadwick with Reverend Mary Bohall officiating. A visitation will be held one hour prior to the service from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. November 10, 2014 at the Church. Burial of ashes will take place at 2:30 p.m. Monday in Grove Hill Cemetery, Morrison, Illinois with full Military Rites. Memorials may be made in DuWayne’s memory to the Hope UMC, Good Samaritan Nursing home or the Carroll County Senior Transport.
DuWayne was born on March 11, 1918, to Peter and Nellie (Dykstra) Vos in Morrison. He attended Morrison Schools. On April 24, 1942, he married Christine Vandermyde in Morrison. Christine died on May 3, 2007. DuWayne proudly served his country from 1944-46 as a Corporal in the United States Army during World War II, receiving the Bronze Star.
DuWayne farmed most of his life near Chadwick, enjoying the outdoors and time with family. He was a long-time member of the Ebenezer Reformed Church in Morrison where he served as Elder and Sunday School teacher. He attended Hope United Methodist Church. He enjoyed watching TV, mowing, hunting, fishing, and especially spending time with family and friends.
DuWayne will be dearly missed by his son, Gordon (Joan) Vos of Chadwick, Illinois; two daughters, Faye (David) Livermore of Galesburg, Illinois and Ellen (Robert) Etien of Bella Vista, Arkansas; eight grandchildren, Derek (Brenda) Clevidence of Cottage Grove, Wisconsin, Daniel (Nona) Clevidence of Ankeny, Iowa, Robert (Jess) Etien of Schenectady, New York, Lynda (Bud) Erickson of Dunlap, Illinois, Rebecca (Jeff) Harris of Springfield, Missouri, Charlotte (Doug) Wibholm of Ankeny, Iowa, Sarah (Terry) Foust of Port Byron, Illinois and Amber (Kurt) Bush of DeWitt, Iowa; thirteen great-grandchildren, Brett, Emily, Jack, Kyle, Morgan, Ryan, Casey, Breanne, Trevor, Trenton, Cecilia, Cooper and Ella; two half sisters, Lorraine Dykema of Morrison, Evelyn Griffith of Monroe, Wisconsin. He is preceded in death by both parents; stepmother, Dora; wife Christine; sister, Faye Vandermyde; and half sister, Pauline Wilkens.
