Durwin “Dur” Kerry Wilhelm, age 59 of Preston, Iowa died on Tuesday, May 14, 2013 at home surrounded by his family. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 17, 2013 at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church in Preston, with Pastor Gregory Geier officiating. Burial will take place in Preston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 12:00 Noon – 2:00 p.m. the time of the service at St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran Church.
Dur was born on September 5, 1953, the son of Kenneth and Vera (Lampe) Wilhelm in Maquoketa, Iowa. He attended Miles School and graduated with the Class of 1972. On April 18, 2008, Dur married Brenda Minnich in Maquoketa. Dur was a foreman Iron Worker. He taught a brother and several nephews the trade.
Dur enjoyed traveling with his job, it allowed him to visit Colorado, Maine and Hawaii. He cherished the time spent with his family camping, fishing, talking trucks with Dylan, pulling Gracie and Nora behind the 4-wheeler, taking trips to see Neilee and Cody, his pets, watching Judge Judy, NASCAR he especially loved the Ford cars and his favorite driver Carl Edwards. His grandkids idolized everything about their grandpa. Dur was well known for his one-liners and his sense of humor.
Dur will be dearly missed by his wife, Brenda of Preston; one son, Bob (Tracy) Wilhelm of Jerome, Idaho; two daughters, Carrie (Matthew) Ahrens of DeWitt, Iowa; Kassidy (Dave Shady) of Maquoketa; five grandchildren; one brother, David (Theresa) Wilhelm of Clinton, Iowa; two sisters, Dianna Shirley of Camanche, Iowa, and Deb (Dwain) Johnson of Clinton, Iowa. Dur is preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth and Vera; 2 brothers, Dennis and Mark Wilhelm; and a sister, Janice.
