Duane M. Cheeseman, age 77, of Mt. Carroll, Illinois, died March 9, 2006, at his home in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Funeral Services will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 at First Baptist Church , Mt. Carroll with Pastor Bob Ziebarth officiating. Interment will take place at the Oak Hill Cemetery in Mt. Carroll, Illinois. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, March 14, 2006 prior to the service at the church. Duane was born January 19, 1929 the son of Charles and Grace (Diehl) Cheeseman at the family home in Shannon, Illinois. Duane graduated from Shannon High School. On September 17, 1950, Duane married LaVona F. Phillips in the First Baptist Church, Mt. Carroll. In February 1954, Duane entered the United States Army for two years.
Duane was the Trustee and Head Usher at First Baptist Church , Mt. Carroll for eighteen years.
Duane worked at the Fullerton Lumber Yard in Freeport, Illinois for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1984. In his leisure time he enjoyed carpentry and working with his hands, playing cards and traveling. Duane always had time for friends and neighbors. His faithful companion, “Sammy” the poodle filled Duane’s heart with joy. He was a lover of animals. Duane and LaVona liked going out for meals and spending time with friends. Of course he loved LaVona’s cooking most of all. Duane was a member of the First Baptist Church of Mt. Carroll.
Duane will be deeply missed by his loving wife, LaVona; one daughter, Pamela (Paul) Gautreau of Beemer, Nebraska. Duane is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Charles “Keith” Cheeseman; and one sister, Neva Edler;
