Douglas "Doug" W. Krahn

Douglas “Doug” W. Krahn, age 52, of Fulton, Illinois, passed away Thursday, May 31, 2007, at his home in Fulton, Illinois. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, June 5, 2007, at the Law-Jones Funeral Home in Thomson, Illinois. Pastor Ron Abbott of York Community Congregational Church, Thomson, Illinois, will officiate. Cremation rites will be accorded following the service. Friends may call from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Monday, June 4, 2007 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Thomson, Illinois. A Memorial Fund has been established in Doug’s name. Doug was born on September 24, 1954, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of John and Ida (Jones) Krahn. He graduated from Thomson High School, Class of 1972. On April 17, 1993 Doug married Sharon Barsema at a Cabin in Riverview, Illinois.
Doug had a total of thirty-one years as a Police Officer, beginning his chosen career at the age of nineteen as a Police Officer for the Thomson Illinois Police Department, he then went to work for the Carroll County Sheriffs Department, in 1983 he became a Police Officer for the Lanark Police Department and served as Chief of Police for a period of time. Doug served as Chief of Police for Fulton, Illinois from 1984-1993. In 1996 Doug became a Police Officer for the Mt. Carroll Police Department through 2006. He was a also a member of the Blackhawk Area Task Force. Doug enjoyed fishing and duck hunting especially at Spring Lake.
Doug is survived by his parents, John and Ida Krahn of Thomson, Illinois; his wife, Sharon Krahn of Fulton, Illinois; one daughter, Kristian Krahn of Birmingham, Alabama; three step-daughters Stephanie (Jeff) Sloane of Camanche, Iowa, Jessica Hart of New Port News, Virginia, Amanda Barsema of Clinton, Iowa; two step granddaughters, Madison Sloane and Maci Sloane; his Mother-in-law Alice Bowles of Greeley, Colorado. Doug is preceded in death by his brother, Dale Krahn and Father-in-law, James Bowles.
