Douglas E. Johnson II, age 63, of Elizabeth, Illinois, died on Friday, October 3, 2008 at his home in rural Elizabeth. Cremation rites have been accorded. A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, October 18, 2008 at Law-Jones Funeral Home, Elizabeth. Reverend Dan Schenck of the United Methodist Church, Elizabeth will officiate. Memorials may be given to the American Brain Tumor Association, 2720 River Road, Des Plaines, Illinois 60018; Masonic Children’s Homes, 441 9th Ave, LaGrange, Illinois 60525; Shriners Hospitals for Children, Office of Development, 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, Florida 33607, or a charity of the donor’s choice.
Douglas was born on November 1, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois, the son of Douglas E. and Eleanor R. Johnson. He graduated from Niles East High School in Skokie, Illinois, with the Class of 1962. He later attended the University of Illinois at Navy Pier and the DeVry Technical Institute, Chicago. Douglas married Claudia A. Pruitt on July 6, 1985 in the Trinity United Methodist Church, Mount Prospect, Illinois.
Douglas was employed with All-Sons Tool and Die, which was their family business located in Wheeling, Illinois for several years. He was also in Commercial Sales for seventeen years, until retiring in 2000. Douglas was a longtime member and Past Master of the Glenview-United Masonic Lodge #1058, Glenview IL, Past Patron of Glenview Chapter No. 862 Order of the Eastern Star and a member of the Order of DeMolay, where he was honored as a Chevalier and Legion of Honor member. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church, Elizabeth and served in the Navy Reserves. Douglas also helped further children’s educations by participating in the Study Buddy program at River Ridge School in Elizabeth. Douglas enjoyed international travel with his wife, Claudia, model trains, woodworking, gardening flowers and canning vegetables from his garden.
Douglas will be missed by his loving wife, Claudia; father, Douglas E. Johnson of Mount Prospect; two brothers, Gregory (Linda) Johnson of Wheeling, and Jeffrey (MaryBeth) Johnson of Palatine; several nieces and nephews; and a special canine companion, Molly.
Doug was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor.
