Douglas B. Sandholdt, age 59, of Sabula, Iowa, died on Monday, August 3, 2009, at the Mercy Medical Center - North in Clinton, Iowa. Cremation rites will be accorded. Private family burial will take place at a later date. Memorial may be directed to the family.
Doug was born April 24, 1950, in Savanna, Illinois, the son of Bert and Esther (McElroy) Sandholdt. He graduated from Sabula High School with the Class of 1968. Doug then served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He married Julie Ackerman in Sabula and together they had their son Doug. They later divorced and he married Dianna McClain on July 3, 1993, in Maquoketa, Iowa.
Doug worked at Carlon in Clinton, Iowa. He enjoyed fishing and just spending time on the Mississippi River. He also enjoyed mushroom hunting. Doug was a lifetime member of the Sabula V.F.W. and American Legion and was proud to have served his country.
Doug is survived by his wife Dianna Sandholdt of Sabula, Iowa; one son, Doug and Rebecca Sandholdt, and their son Nathan, of Columbus, Ohio; one step daughter, Tonya Keis of Davenport, Iowa; five step - sons, Gary Delargy and Tony Delargy of Little Rock, Arkansas, and Harley, David, and Herb Keis, all of Davenport; 10 step - grandchildren; four step great - grandchildren; two brothers, George (Gloria) Sandholdt of Sabula, and Jim (Mary) Sandholdt of Oskaloosa, Iowa; one sister, Sandra Curnutt of Maquoketa, Iowa; his father and mother in - law, David and Donna Dever of Miles, Iowa; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other relatives and friends.
Doug was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Donna Wilson, Joyce Pyle, and Barbara Kay Sandholdt; and one brother, Bert Sandholdt.
