Dorothy K. Zeimet, age 93, of Spragueville, Iowa, died Saturday July 9, 2011, at the Maquoketa Care Center, Maquoketa, Iowa. A visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, July 11, 2011, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston, Iowa, with a scripture wake service at 6:30 p.m. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 12, also at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery, Preston.
Dorothy was born January 8, 1918, in Springbrook, Iowa, the daughter of John and Katherine (Tebbe) Schmidt. She married Alvin J. Zeimet on September 28, 1937, in Springbrook. Alvin preceded her in death on January 16, 2005.
Dorothy worked as the bookkeeper for the family business, Zeimet’s Garage, in Spragueville. She also worked at the Sabula Speaker Factory for two years. Dorothy was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Preston, the Rosary Society, and the Spragueville American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed quilting, fishing and playing cards.
Dorothy is survived and lovingly remembered by one daughter, Doris (Jerry) Murray of LeClaire, Iowa; four sons, Gene (Sandra) Zeimet of Ankeny, Iowa, Clive (Agnes) Zeimet of Spragueville, Iowa, Kenneth (Marilyn) Zeimet of Dewitt, Iowa, and Denis (Andrea) Zeimet of Surprise, Arizona; twenty grandchildren, 47 great grandchildren; four sisters, Maryetta (Larry) Lampe of Bellevue, Iowa, Pat (Verlyn) Trenkamp of Lincoln, Nebraska, Charlene Grotheus of Kansas City, Kansas, and Katherine Groves of Lima, Ohio; seven brothers, Gerald (Mary Ann) Schmidt of Maquoketa, Iowa, Leonard (Shirley) Schmidt of Woodburn, Oregon, Vincent (Anita) Schmidt of Bellevue, Vitus (Bev) Schmidt of Elk Grove, Nebraska, Levi (Vera) Schmidt of Maquoketa, Iowa, David (Audrey) Schmidt of Baldwin, Iowa, and Tommy (Lee) Schmidt of Tampa, Florida; and many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Alvin Zeimet; one daughter, Vicki Amacher; one sister, Margaret Rubel; four brothers, Julian, Jim, Eddie and Ronnie Schmidt; and one grandson, Kyle Zeimet.
