Dorothy E. Yates, age 101, of Savanna, Illinois, died Friday, May 22, 2015, at Big Meadows Nursing Home in Savanna. Cremation Rites have been accorded. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 28, 2015 at the Savanna Township Cemetery.
Dorothy was born on November 16, 1913 in Savanna, the daughter of James and Mary Anna (Wurster) Yates. She attended Savanna High School, and graduated with the Class of 1931. After high school, she attended three years at Rush Presbyterian Hospital College of Nursing, Chicago, Illinois. Dorothy was the head Registered Nurse at Rush Medical Center, Chicago. She also served as Superintendent at Lewis County Hospital, Centralia, Washington from 1937 to 1978, and as a Clinical Instructor in Freeport, Illinois and Clinton, Iowa.
Dorothy was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Savanna, as well as a past member of the American Nurses Association. Dorothy enjoyed doing needlepoint, and playing tennis in her younger years. She loved to travel around the U.S. and to foreign countries.Dorothy will be dearly missed by her close friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Mary; two sisters, Frances and Ruth.
