Dorothy M. Vian, age 85, of Thomson, Illinois, died Saturday, March 31, 2012, at Harbor Crest Nursing Home in Fulton, Illinois. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 4, 2012, at the Law – Jones Funeral Home in Thomson. Burial will follow in Lower York Cemetery, Thomson. Visitation will be held from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at Law – Jones Funeral Home prior to the funeral on Wednesday. Memorials may be directed to the York Baptist Church, Thomson.
Dorothy was born May 24, 1926, in Savanna, Illinois, the daughter of George J. and Gladys F. (Bush) Ulmer. She graduated from Savanna High School with the Class of 1945. Dorothy married James L. Vian on August 6, 1949, in Lacrosse, Wisconsin. He preceded her in death on March 12, 2001.
Dorothy was a homemaker who enjoyed taking care of her family. She also worked for Larry Atherton Trucking as a dispatcher for many years. Dorothy collected cook books of all kinds and had an entire room full of her collection. She was a member of York Baptist Church in Thomson, Illinois, and was a member of T.O.P.S. IL #821.
Dorothy is survived by one son, Lawrence E. (Mary) Vian of Silvis, Illinois; one daughter, Marie (Ron) Norris of Mountain Home, Arkansas; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents; a step – father, Raymond F. Hoffman; her husband, James L. Vian; one sister, Helenmae Coley; and one brother, David Ulmer.
